Energy Equity Epic Sengkang Holds DWOP for Preparation of SBO-2 and EWL-1 Well Drilling

In preparation for drilling two exploration wells in the Sengkang work area in the near future, namely the Salobulo-2 (SBO-2) well and the East Walanga-1 (EWL-1) well, Energy Equity Epic Sengkang (EEES) held a Drilling Well On Paper (DWOP) activity on 26-28 May 2025 at Menara 165, Jakarta which was attended by technical partners of the drilling activity and also attended by the EMP Group from the Drilling & Workover, Geoscience and Engineering departments.

DWOP is an operational planning activity carried out by simulation “on paper” before the actual drilling activity begins. During the three days of implementation, this activity brought together all stakeholders involved in the drilling project, both from within the company and technical partners. The goal is to align understanding of location, well design, operational procedures, potential technical challenges, and risk mitigation plans, so as to minimize the potential for Non-Productive Time (NPT) in the field. This activity is an important step in ensuring technical readiness, safety, and operational efficiency ahead of drilling in the field.

The DWOP activity was opened and led directly by the General Manager of EEES, Mr. Farid Gaffar, who emphasized EEES’ commitment to carrying out drilling operations professionally, safely, and in accordance with best practices in the oil and gas industry. Also present at this event were the VP of Drilling and Workover Energi Mega Persada (EMP), Mr. Juwargito, who provided strategic views from the corporate side, and the Manager of Drilling & Sub Service EEES, Mr. Christanto Budi Susanto, who led the overall technical discussion.

During the implementation of DWOP, various technical aspects of drilling were discussed in detail, starting from well design, selection of bottom hole assembly (BHA), casing and cementing procedures, to the implementation plan for well testing and completion. The engineering and HSE teams also presented an analysis of potential hazards and their handling, with the aim of ensuring personnel safety and environmental protection. No less important, emergency condition simulations were also carried out, including evacuation plans and logistics coordination, so that the entire team was prepared to face unexpected scenarios in the field.

Through this DWOP, EEES demonstrated proactive efforts in ensuring that all drilling implementations not only ran according to technical specifications, but also prioritized the principles of efficiency and safety. In his statement, Mr. Christanto Budi Susanto said that DWOP was part of the company’s commitment to encourage a planned, collaborative, and results-oriented work culture. “DWOP is an important forum to test all plans on paper, ensuring that we are not only technically ready, but also mentally and operationally ready,” he said.

Drilling of the SBO-2 and EWL-1 wells is planned to begin in the third quarter of 2025, with the hope of producing additional gas reserves and contributing to the achievement of national production targets. EEES’ work area in Sengkang, South Sulawesi, is one of the strategic assets that has great potential to support Indonesia’s energy security. Therefore, this DWOP activity is not only a means of technical planning, but also a representation of EEES’ commitment to maintaining the quality of oil and gas operations as a whole.

With the completion of this DWOP, EEES together with all technical partners are now entering the final stage of drilling preparation. The results of discussions, technical corrections, and recommendations from the DWOP will be used as the main guidelines in the field execution later. It is hoped that the SBO-2 and EWL drilling activities can run safely, efficiently, and provide optimal results for all stakeholders, both companies, governments, and communities around the operating area.
