Company Visit Held by SPE UNHAS Student Chapter to EEES

On Wednesday, February 21, 2024, 18 members accompanied by Dr. Muhammad Taufiq Rafie, S.Si. M.T. as the Advisor and one of the founders of the Societies of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) UNHAS Student Chapter (SC) conducted a visit as part of their agenda to broaden insights in the oil and gas industry by visiting the Central Processing Plant (CPP) of Energy Equity Epic (Sengkang) Pty.Ltd. (EEES).

The delegation was warmly received by the Deputy General Manager of EEES, Ridwan Jalal, along with the Field Operations Manager, Herry Ridwan Jaya, at the CPP Kampung Baru meeting room. Also present at the event were the Representatives of OCM PT. EMA, Agung Darmoyo and VP of Geoscience EMP, Hendarman.

In his opening speech, the Field Operations Manager expressed EEES’s strong support for this visit as an opportunity for students to enhance their understanding, particularly in the upstream oil and gas industry in South Sulawesi. “We hope that our student colleagues can maximize this visit as SPE members. Hopefully, among you, there are those who can follow in the footsteps of one of our seniors who had the opportunity to be invited to Texas, USA in 2016 facilitated by SPE” he stated.

During the visit, members of SPE Unhas SC received presentations on the history of Sengkang oil block management, exploration activities including seismic and drilling, as well as gas production operations in the Kampung Baru gas field.

Additionally, participants had the chance to receive materials and engage in discussions with EEES advisor, Awang Satyana who presented on the Geology of Southern Sulawesi and it is Implications on Mineral and Oil Resources, Volcanism, Prehistoric Life, and Earthquakes. This senior geologist explained fundamental aspects, such as the formation of Sulawesi Island from tectonic collisions, mineral and oil resources in South Sulawesi, volcanism associated with tectonic collisions, prehistoric life in caves in Maros, geological descriptions of the Walanae, Enrekang, Tana Toraja valleys, and seismic deformations in West Sulawesi.

SPE Advisor Dr. Muhammad Taufiq Rafie, S.Si, M.T. expressed gratitude for EEES’s willingness to host the visit from the SPE UNHAS Student Chapter. “Mr. Awang Satyana’s presence today is a privilege for us. What the students gained today is invaluable in witnessing firsthand the real conditions of the oil and gas industry in the field that they have been studying and discussing on campus,” he remarked.

After concluding discussions in the room, the delegation was guided to visit the Gas Central Processing Plant area to observe firsthand the activities of natural gas processing and treatment. (bf)
